We are a professional couple in Columbus, Ohio: Sarah and George Holroyd. We both work in Information Technology. George was a Navy corpsman for nearly eight years prior to that.
In September of 2008, George began applying for government positions, including civilian positions on overseas military bases. In mid-October, he was contacted about one of those positions, in Kaiserslautern, Germany. His resume had been referred to the hiring official on September 22. He had a phone interview on October 28, then didn’t hear anything at all…until January 2, 2009. He received an email with instructions to complete several forms, which he did, and emailed back the following Monday. Then we waited again. On January 15, he was instructed to complete the SF-86 (security clearance background check form), which he had already started doing on his own. He emailed that back on the 20th. Today, January 28th, he received the job offer.
This blog is the chronicle of our relocation overseas, and all that entails.

Hello Sarah & George…
You know, when you check your blog stats and down at the bottom of the page WP features a “latest posts” area? I saw your post on new furniture and had to take a peek. This is the first time I’ve ventured out like this, always staying in my own site, my comfort zone, so to speak. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and wish you both a belated Happy Anniversary.
